Window regulators are the devices which both power and manual windows sit on that allows them to move up and down. There are different types of window regulators; cable, scissor, and so on. Some are hand operated by a crank, while others are operated by a switch and power motor.
Window regulators can fail due to old age and repeated use, or from abuse. Whenever one fails or is failing, the window may cease to operate entirely, or simply appear to "fall off the track" while rolling it up or down.
