Strut mounts attach the strut assembly to the vehicle, and provide a cushion that reduces the amount of vibration and noise experienced inside the vehicle. In addition, most front strut mounts contain a bearing which allows the strut to pivot for steering purposes.
As strut mounts age, the cushion becomes worn and less effective at absorbing the impacts and noise from the road. On front strut mounts the bearing can wear down. Whenever the struts, coil springs or complete strut assemblies are replaced the strut mounts should be replaced as well. It is not only good practice, but will provide a better ride and potentially prevent another costly repair shortly after having the suspension serviced!
Strut mounts should be inspected or serviced by a professional automotive technician.
