Coolant Temperature Sensor
The coolant temperature sensor does what its name implies - it registers the temperature of the coolant within the engine. The information gathered is then sent to the ECU or dash, and may provide a variety of functionality including; air/fuel ratio adjustment, electronic fan control, driver warnings.
If your vehicle's temperature gauge is reporting an odd temperature (ie, too low or very high when the vehicle is obviously not in that temperature range) it may be time to have the coolant temperature sensor replaced.
Replacing the coolant temperature sensor will vary in difficulty. It may be easily performed by a novice or require more experienced expertise.
